I have several addictions, one is collecting cookbooks.
As my collection grows and grows, space especially in Hong Kong is an issue. I decided to try to go digital for the first time. I was sceptical and my original feelings are still standing. Its just not as good as holding the flesh of the book in your hands. It is similair to food I think. Certain books have certain distinguishing smells, with slight differences. For some reason my Alain Ducasse dessert and pastry book just downright smells terrible everytime I open it! But is still nice to open on occasion when I need to pull out a french classic. On the other hand my Alinea book has a slightly sweet smell to it and of course is always a pleasure to open.
My mom sent me a great Christmas present from my amazon wish list, Tartine bread.
It is a really great book while reading and while going through the pages it brought back a lot of great memories from the first bakery I worked at. My only surprise that there is one basic bread recipe from the book and all other forms and flavors of bread are based from this recipe. For me it definately will take up prime real estate on my bookshelf!
And of course there is the much anticipated book from ideas in food.
The original bloggers which inspired me from the beginning and of course still to this day. I bought the digital version and have browsed most sections but as mentioned it just doesn't feel right to read this on my computer or iPhone ( im not cool enough to have a iPad yet).
To be honest I have to say the digital purchase was partially due to the fact that I am too impatient to wait for the delivery of this book along with the fact the shipping costs more than the book =) I usually wait until I have 4-5 books to purchase and then the cost of shipping makes it worth it.
My only surprise on this book was there are no pictures!!! I honestly have to say I am a bit disappointed as that they always have stunning food photography on their blog and was hoping to see some new pieces in the book. Regardless it is a must have and even though I have the digital version I will buy the hard copy in the near future as well because like I said, I have an addiction!
